When the subject of faculty and headmistress was brought up, Mrs. Craddock raised her

hand and volunteered that she knew someone who would be perfect – Annie C. Whiteside,

the Registrar and Director of Administration at Randolph- Macon Women's College.

Miss Whiteside would be retiring that June.

Perkins told Mrs. Craddock that was a wonderful idea, to recruit Miss. Whiteside.

Henceforth, Mrs. Craddock would be in charge of faculty and curriculum for the new

school.

Mrs. Craddock, who was also a woman of action, approached Annie C. Whiteside and

offered her the job. She took the position with the understanding that she would only

serve for 5 years, after which she intended to retire.

The first goal in making the school a reality was accomplished!
